Is it alright to mix african cichlids with south american cichlids?

No. The giraffe cichlid, parrot cichlid, and midas cichlid will all get a foot long in length. Your tank will be way overstocked. And parrot cichlids are not south american cichlids. They are a hybrid. A man made species bred to make money. I would stick to keeping the africans by themselves and same with the south americans. :)
